Can you have a baptism with no godparents? Or what non traditional ways are there of having a baptism?
Me and my husband don’t have a lot of family and friends that we would really want to be the baby’s godparent or that would want to be one. His mother and step dad are an option but they are in their 50′s.. and his dad would be highly jealous, and it would proabably cause a huge family rift. So I was wondering if its possible of having a baptism without having any godparents.. and just having witnesses at the ceremony? Or what non traditional ways are their of baptisng or dedicating your child to the church?

Oh.. we are not REAL religious we are more spiritual than religious.. but we both believe in god and installing those values on our child is important to us.
We aren’t of any certian faith.. we will be going to a non denomination church or having a private ceremony.
What is the purpose of godparents for you? For some people it’s simply for show. I know people who have tons of them and it seems like nothing more than a big show off session.
1. godparents can be the people you want to raise your child should anything happen to you two
2. godparents can be the people who will help you in the spiritual raising of your child.
If you are not overly religious, why do a baptism? Let me just say that some churches make people feel like Jesus will not save them if they haven’t been baptised. It’s not true. It’s a ceremony for the public really to declare yourself as being saved or whatnot.
If this is only for who will raise your children if something happens to you, you can just ask them and put it in your will.
The choosing of these people is up to yOU and no one else. It’s not about making others feel special. These have to be VERY important people in your life.
