Jesus Moses

Religious Tolerance. Jesus and Mohammed

Two men changed the world forever by the message they brought along with themselves. One is known to be a miracle from a virgin mother and the other is known to be the messenger whom an angel approached with a message from God. Those two men have captivated and changed the world forever. Wars have taken place in those men’s name, and today billions of people believe and follow the message each man delivered. The two men are Jesus and Mohammed. One is known to be the son of the lord and the other is known as the prophet.

Jesus

The birth of Jesus was expected and prophesied by Jews for centuries before his coming.Jesus was born to a mother named Mary, who was a virgin during the time Jesus arrived into this world more than 2000 years ago. Jesus was born in Bethlehem and raised in Nazareth, which was known as Palestine. Today Bethlehem is located on Palestinian territory and Nazareth is located on Israeli territory. By the time Jesus reached his thirties, he began public teachings and performing miracles. Although Jesus became known and recognized worldwide, he never physically travelled more than 200 miles from his birthplace, Bethlehem. Some of the key messages that were carried by Jesus were: Love one another, God loves you, God forgives those who ask for forgiveness, immense value of each other, and finally the reality of heaven and hell.At the age of 12, Jesus was separated from his parents while traveling to a nearby city. Jesus was later found in a synagogue discussing the Torah with Rabbis. The Rabbis were surprised and astonished with knowledge and deep understanding of God. Although Jesus is believed to have played a big role during his child and teen years, little is known up until he reached his adulthood.

Later Jesus met a Baptist who is named John, also known as John the Baptists. Jesus requested John the Baptists to baptize him, which caused John to be astonished by the request. It is believed that God pronounced Jesus as his son during Baptism when Jesus was raised from the water. Jesus later went on to spread the message of peace and the word of God. During the time Jesus was spreading the word of God, he was known for his miracles. Jesus performed miracles such as healing sick individuals, curing the blind, and performing exorcism on individuals possessed by demons .

Due to Jesus’ preaching and astonishing miracles, the number of followers began to increase dramatically. However, the increase of followers and the miracles Jesus performed did not impress everyone. The emperor of Rome did not like the fact that Jesus was gaining so much popularity. Three years after Jesus was baptized, he was convicted of sedition and rebelling against the Government of Rome. The result of rebelling against a government was a sentence of torture and crucifixion. Jesus was then tortured, humiliated, nailed to a cross, and crucified. After his death, he was placed in a tomb and guarded by guards from the Roman Empire. However, it was later discovered that the body of Jesus had vanished with no trace whatsoever. It is said that after the death of Jesus, he continued to appear to his followers with the message of God.

After Jesus’ death, many people including the Romans turned to Christianity as a religion. Today, Christianity is one of the largest and most followed religions in the world. The death of Jesus not only sparked a belief in many people, but was also necessary to create a new covenant between God and Man. Jesus is viewed as a savior to mankind and widely followed and loved throughout the world.

Jesus is considered to be one of the world’s most influential individuals, who sacrificed himself for the sake of mankind. He is considered to be Gods son who came from a virgin mother, Mary. Jesus is a symbol who is carried in the hearts of many people around the world today. He is not considered to me a normal man, but a man, who performed miracles, healed the sick, cured the blind, and brought people back from the dead. He is known as a man who preached peace, love, and forgiveness to mankind. Today, Christianity is one of the largest and most followed religions in the world. The belief of God, Jesus, his message, and his sacrifice are the main beliefs in Christianity.

Mohammed

Though Mohammed also had a message from God, he is not viewed as either the son of God or a savior. Mohammed is believed to be the last prophet with the final message of God. During the childhood of the Prophet Mohammed, he was recognized by a Christian monk to have the markings of a Prophet.  The father of Prophet Mohammed died before he was born. Later, his mother died when he reached the age of five. The Prophet was later raised by his uncle Abu Taleb, which gave Mohammed a job as a Sheppard. At the age of 25, the Prophet married a woman named Khadija, who was 10-15 years older than the prophet.

Prophet Mohammed was known to spend most of his time in isolation pondering a cave called Hira, which is located in Mecca. While pondering the cave of Hira, Mohammed was approached by an angel named Gabriel. Gabriel is believed to be an angel sent from the heavens to deliver Gods message. It is believed that Gabriel’s fist message to Mohammed was “Read in the name of the Lord who created you”. Although this was a scary time for Mohammed, after a number of appearances by Gabriel, Mohammed became a believer and a Prophet believed to be the messenger of God’s word. The Quran is believed to be the final message of God, joining the Torah and Bible into one holy book with the final message of God.

Prophet Mohammed later began preaching and spreading the word of God. Mohammed’s message was believed by many, but later began to get on the nerves of the Quraish citizens, who were part of the Quraish tribe and were polytheists. The Quraish tribe refused Mohammed’s message of monotheism and began to insult and ridicule Mohammed and his message. Overtime, the insults, as well as assaults grew worse against Mohammed, Khadija his wife, and his followers. The Prophet later left Mecca and went to the city of Taif to spread the word of God. The trip to Taif wasn’t as pleasant and Mohammed was forced to go back to Mecca.

In 620 A.D, Mohammed’s message began to convert more people. The tribe of Yathrib in the city of Medina have heard of the Prophets Message and reputation and hoped that he will settle in their city. The majority of the tribe of Yathrib converted to Islam and promised the prophet protection if he were to live amongst them.  Mohammed later became a leader and a person whose reputation was well known for honesty and fairness. He would later solve disputes among people and create a set of rules and laws for people to live by according to the message of God.

Over the years, the angel Gabriel continued to appear to the Prophet with a message from God. It is believed that all messages carried by Gabriel were collected and joined into one single book, which is the Quran. The Quran lists Gods messages to Mohammed, which contain stories of past prophets, commandments, rules, and much more. Mohammed’s message called for peace, love, justice, and the belief of one single God. Although Mohammed named Jesus during his time of Prophecy, Islam recognizes Jesus as a Prophet and not the son of God. During Mohammed’s journey, he and his followers faced a lot of difficulties from opposing tribes who refused to believe in the message Mohammed was trying to deliver. Some difficulties that Mohammed and his followers faced were insults, torture, humiliation, hunger, and persecutions.

It is believed that during one of the most difficult persecutions, Mohammed experienced what is known as the Night of Ascension. It is said that Mohammed ascended into the seven heavens from what is known as the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. When the Prophet returned, he described his Journey as a journey of the end of cosmos where he encountered the divine proximity. Mohammed claimed to have seen Prophets such as Jesus, Moses, and many more. He also claimed to have seen heaven and hell. It is believed that God ordered Mohammed and his followers to worship him by praying during Mohammed’s visit to the seven heavens.

After much struggling with tribes and battles, Mohammed and his followers went through so much trying to spread Islam and live in peace. Mohammed died after his return from pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. Pilgrimage is one of the 5 main pillars of Islam, where Muslims go to the Ka’aba to perform a ritual. Before Mohammed’s death, he told his followers that he will meet them at the “fountain in Paradise”.  It is also believed that Mohammed was worried about his followers and their future prior to his death.

The Prophet Mohammed is one of the most influential people in history. He is believed by many to be the last messenger sent from God carrying the final message to humanity. Prophet Mohammed’s actions are believed to be an example of how humans should live today. Characteristics of humbleness, fairness, and peace are some of the many characteristics the Prophet carried. Although he is not worshipped since he is a prophet, he is considered to be a historical figure to Muslims all around the world. He is considered as the last chosen prophet by God who carried Gods final message combining all previous religions into one Holy book.  Mohammed’s message spread all around the world, making Islam the second largest religions in the world, as well as the fastest growing. People from all walks of life, ethnic backgrounds, and race follow Islam today.

Islam and Christianity and are the two largest religions in the world today. Jesus and Mohammed are two individuals that have changed the world forever with their message to humanity. Although their messages are slightly different, the similarities overcome the differences. The message of love, peace, and forgiveness were taught by both men. Both men are symbolic figures today, each carrying a message to humanity. A message that is as clear as it can get: love, peace, and forgiveness amongst humanity. Today, many people are fighting each other in the name of religion. Many people are using religion as a way to commit acts of evil and terror. Those people have intentions of dividing humanity and spreading hate, fear, and evil. Such actions contradict the message of Jesus and Mohammed, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Although Judaism wasn’t mentioned in this article, Judaism is one of the three Abrahamic faiths. Judaism is also a religion that has many similarities to Christianity and Islam. Judaism is a religion that also calls for love, peace, and forgiveness. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are religions that have much more similarities than they do in differences. Such similarities bring up the most important question of all. Do Abrahamic faiths contain the same message with different paths?
